In this editorial, we introduce the Language Teacher Education Research (LTER) Journal as a new venue dedicated to researchers and practitioners in the field of language teacher education, providing a space to share, showcase, and advance their scholarly and practical contributions. This editorial serves as a guide to the journal's objectives, providing an overview of its mission to contribute to the advancement of research and practice in Language Teacher Education (LTE). It contextualizes LTE within the broader landscape of contemporary research, offering insights into its evolving scope and interdisciplinary connections. The editorial explores significant trends shaping the field and addresses pressing challenges. Finally, the editorial poses thought-provoking questions to inspire future research, encouraging scholars to explore critical issues, generate innovative solutions, and push the boundaries of knowledge in LTE.

Dr. Jaber Kamali (from Ibn Haldun University, Istanbul, Türkiye) is the Editor-in-Chief of the Language Teacher Education Research Journal and TESOL Coordinator at IHU. He has been working as a coordinator at the IHU teacher training center, where he manages the Trinity CertTESOL and DipTESOL Courses. He has published on various aspects of teacher education in international journals and has also edited and is currently editing special issues, such as the one on Technology-Enhanced Language Teacher Education in the Technology in Language Teaching & Learning journal. He was also among the top-cited authors of Wiley publications in 2020-2021.

Donald Freeman

Donald Freeman is Professor Emeritus of Education, University of Michigan.

Diane Larsen-Freeman

Diane Larsen-Freeman is Professor Emerita of Education and Linguistics, Research Scientist Emerita, and former Director of the English Language Institute at the University of Michigan. She is also Professor Emerita at the SIT Graduate Institute in Vermont and Visiting Faculty at the University of Pennsylvania. Some of her books are Complex Systems and Applied Linguistics (2008, with L. Cameron), winner of the MLA’s Kenneth Mildenberger Book Prize, the third edition of Techniques and Principles (2011, with M. Anderson), the third edition of The Grammar Book, Form, Meaning, and Use for English Language Teachers (2015, with M. Celce- Murcia), and Second Language Development: Ever Expanding (2018). Dr. Larsen-Freeman edited the journal Language Learning for five years, and later served as Chair of its Board of Directors.

Bonny Norton

Dr. Bonny Norton (FRSC) is a University Killam Professor and Distinguished University Scholar in the Department of Language and Literacy Education, University of British Columbia, Canada. Her primary research interests are identity and language learning, critical literacy, and the open access Global Storybooks project (globalstorybooks.net). She is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and the American Educational Research Association, and was elected BC Academic of the Year in 2020. Thomas S. C. Farrell

Thomas S.C. Farrell is Professor of Applied Linguistics at Brock University, Canada. Professor Farrell’s professional interests include Reflective Practice, and Language Teacher Education & Development. Professor Farrell has published widely in academic journals and has presented at major conferences worldwide on these topics. He is recognized in the World’s Top 2% Scientists top-cited in their respective fields (2021, 2022, 2023, 2024), and over 20,000 citations and a 68 h-index on google scholar.
