This paper explores the distinctive characteristics of liquidity risk faced by Islamic banks as well as the typical challenges and constraints faced by these institutions; it also examines the strategies employed by these institutions to effectively manage and mitigate such risks. The inclusion of a literature review of most cited articles on the subject provides a summary of key studies and research conducted in the field of liquidity risk management in Islamic banking. It aims to cover various aspects of liquidity risk management in Islamic banks, including risk identification, measurement, mitigation strategies, governance, interbank relationships regulatory considerations, and the role of Shariah compliance. It offers both researchers and practitioners seeking comprehensive knowledge on the subject an overview of the existing body of knowledge, enabling them to understand the current state of research and build upon existing insights. By offering a comprehensive coverage of current information and practical strategies available in the literature, this paper aims to add significant value to the understanding and implementation of liquidity risk management in Islamic banks. We mean for it to serve as a valuable resource for researchers, practitioners, regulators, and stakeholders involved in Islamic finance and risk management. By stressing the persistent need for effective liquidity risk strategies in the Islamic banking sector and offering insights into the application of liquidity risk management practices that align with Islamic finance principles, we attempt to address a gap in the existing literature that could constitute the basis for future research perspectives.

Liquidity Risk Management in Islamic Banks: Review of the Literature and Future Research Perspectives

Many emerging economies have significantly changed their economic policies by adopting floating exchange rate regimes. In this sense, we examine their effect on the Middle East North African (MENA) region, and based on similarities and differences in macroeconomic structure and fundamentals, the potential effect on the Moroccan economy would be projected. The study provides an overview of the MENA region's experience with exchange rate regimes, looking at their historical development and effects on regional economic stability and growth. If the adoption of floating exchange rate regimes for the emerging economies in the MENA region has benefits including enhanced flexibility, decreased vulnerability to external shocks, and increased competitiveness; however, the considered countries recognize difficulties in setting them up and running them, as well as the requirement for supportive policy measures. This paper underlines the significance of additional research to examine the effects of floating exchange rate regimes on other MENA economies, mainly Morocco, and to determine the most efficient policy measures to maximize the advantages of this regime.

Floating Exchange Rate Regimes and Macroeconomic Indicators:  Evidence from Mena Region and Outlook for the Moroccan Case

Banks' performance is an important topic for both professionals and researchers. Given the important literature on this subject, this paper aims to bring an up-to-date and organized review of literature on the determinants of banks performance. This paper discusses the main approaches that molded the debate on banks’ performance and their main determinants. An in-depth understanding of these latter may allow on the one hand, bank managers and regulators to improve the sectors’ efficiency and to deal with the new trends shaping the future of their industry and on the other hand, academicians to enrich research and knowledge on this field. Through the analysis of 54 studies published in 42 peer-reviewed journals, we show that despite the importance of the existent literature, the subject of bank performance factors did not reveal all its secrets and still constitute a fertile field for critical debates, especially since the COVID-19 and the increasingly pressing rise in power of digital transformation and artificial intelligence in general and FinTechs in particular. The study concludes by suggesting new promising research avenues.
